Community Settlements & Nether Highway Guidelines

Standards and infrastructure practices for building settlements, linking Nether portals, and respecting community shopping districts in Thenga SMP.

Thenga SMP is defined by collaborative survival projects, relaxed community settlements, and shared infrastructure. To prevent overlapping claims, maintain clean transport routes, and keep tick performance butter-smooth, follow these community guidelines.

1. Claiming & Respecting Building Perimeters

We do not use artificial, immersion-breaking land claim plugins (/claim). Instead, we operate on genuine mutual trust and visible territorial demarcations:

  1. Check BlueMap First: Before breaking ground, view the live world map on BlueMap (link in Discord #server-access) to make sure you leave adequate breathing room (at least 300 to 500 blocks) from another player’s active settlement unless you are collaborating.
  2. Post Coordinates in #coordinates: Register your settlement name and coordinates in Discord so fellow builders know the surrounding area is inhabited.
  3. Border Markers: Place simple perimeter beacons, banners, or border torches around your intended construction area.

2. Nether Highway & Portal Linking Standards

The Nether is our central high-speed transit highway network. Because 1 block in the Nether = 8 blocks in the Overworld, proper portal mathematical alignment is mandatory to avoid linking issues:

  1. Calculate Exact Coordinates:
    • Divide your Overworld X and Z coordinates by 8:
      Nether X = Overworld X / 8
      Nether Z = Overworld Z / 8
  2. Build Your Nether Portal at Highway Level:
    • All central highway tunnels run at Y = 115 (just beneath the Nether ceiling).
    • Clear a 3x3 tunnel connecting your portal back to the main directional axis (North, South, East, West).
  3. Ice Boat Lanes:
    • Packed Ice or Blue Ice boat lanes are encouraged for rapid transit. Keep paths lined with slabs or buttons to prevent mob spawning.

3. Coconut Shopping District Etiquette

Our central trade district operates on a diamond-backed vanilla economy:

  • 1 Diamond = 1 Trade Currency Unit.
  • Players are free to open shops selling enchanted books, building blocks, rocket fuel, and redstone components.
  • Pay the designated diamond payment directly into the merchant’s payment chest before retrieving items.
  • Keep shop footprints reasonable (maximum 20x20 blocks per vendor plot) to leave space for other traders.

4. Technical Redstone & Lag Prevention

To guarantee a stable 20.0 TPS with dozens of players online:

  • Hopper Optimization: Place composters or full furnaces on top of exposed hoppers to reduce unnecessary air-checking tick overhead.
  • Clock Switches: Always install an ON/OFF lever or daylight detector switch on automatic sorting systems, raid farms, and mob grinders. Do not leave heavy redstone clocks running continuously when AFK.
  • Entity Limits: Excessive entity grouping (hundreds of villagers or livestock in single-block pens) will be trimmed by server moderators.

5. CoreProtect & Grief Recovery

All block placements, chest transactions, and mob interactions are logged in real-time by CoreProtect:

  • If you notice items missing or accidental damage, ping @Moderator in Discord #support.
  • Admins can inspect block history with /co i and perform instant single-click rollbacks of any unauthorized alterations.
