Troubleshooting & Common Questions (FAQ)
Fix common connection errors, voice chat disconnected plug icons, whitelist clearances, and client performance issues.
Having trouble connecting or hearing proximity voice audio? Here are solutions to the most common issues reported by players.
1. “You are not whitelisted on this server!”
Cause: Your Minecraft username has not been entered into the server whitelist database yet, or there was a spelling typo in your application.
Solution:
- Check that you submitted your whitelist application at thenga.net/apply.
- Ensure you have joined the Thenga SMP Discord and claimed your role in
#whitelist-status. - Verify that your username is exact: Minecraft Java In-Game Names (IGNs) are strictly case-sensitive (
Notch≠notch). Ping@Adminin Discord#supportto verify your mapped IGN.
2. Voice Chat Shows “Unplugged Cable” Icon 🚫
Cause: The Simple Voice Chat mod in your Minecraft client is unable to establish a UDP handshake with the server’s voice port.
Solution:
- Verify that the dedicated voice port specified in
#server-accessis reachable. - If using restricted college/office Wi-Fi, institutional firewall policies may occasionally block non-standard UDP ports. Test connecting through a mobile hotspot.
- Check your local Windows Defender or Antivirus Firewall:
- Allow
javaw.exe(Java platform binary) through Windows Defender Firewall for both Private and Public networks.
- Allow
- In Minecraft, press
V→ ⚙️ Settings → Verify that your selected microphone is enabled and not muted in Windows / macOS system settings.
3. “Connection Timed Out: getsockopt” or “Unknown Host”
Cause: Your DNS is unable to resolve the server address, or your ISP has stale DNS cache records.
Solution:
- Verify you copied the latest active hostname directly from the pinned message in
#server-accesson Discord. - Flush your local DNS cache:
- Windows: Open Command Prompt as Administrator and run
ipconfig /flushdns. - macOS: In Terminal, run
sudo dscacheutil -flushcache; sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder.
- Windows: Open Command Prompt as Administrator and run
- Try setting your computer’s DNS servers to Cloudflare (
1.1.1.1and1.0.0.1) or Google (8.8.8.8).
4. Low FPS or Micro-Stuttering on Java 26.3
Cause: Vanilla Java 26.3 demands modern graphics rendering optimizations.
Solution: We strongly recommend running Fabric with lightweight performance optimization mods:
- Sodium: 200–400% FPS improvement and shader compatibility.
- Lithium: Client-side tick & physics optimization without altering vanilla mechanics.
- FerriteCore: Dramatically reduces Minecraft’s RAM usage by up to 50%.
- Allocate at least 4 GB of RAM in your launcher settings (e.g.
-Xmx4G).
